Need help with uchar support

All tests should compile and pass. And new features should have a 
corresponding unit test. Meaning, everything that is currently tested on 
ushort_v should also be tested on uchar_v.

That said, I'm also interested in getting this feature in, so I'll see how 
much time I can find to help you on this. But right now I have a lot of other 
higher priority issues to work on.
